Why choose dental bridges?

Whether your dentist has broken the news that dental implants aren’t suitable for you and you’re searching for alternative options, or you’re not too fond of the idea of getting dentures, dental bridges will be ideal for you.

They offer a permanent solution for missing upper and lower teeth, and are great for those who are looking for a less invasive, non-surgical alternative to implants, and a more secure solution than dentures.

Using a natural-looking porcelain tooth, your restoration will be indistinguishable from your surrounding natural teeth, so you can take pride in your new smile without worrying about anybody noticing a difference!

Not only do dental bridges improve the aesthetics of your smile, but they also make day-to-day activities, like eating and talking, much easier and can help protect your remaining natural tooth or teeth.

Are dental bridges right for me?

Although dental bridges are an excellent alternative for those who have been told that other treatments aren’t a suitable option, there are still a few things that affect your candidacy for dental bridges.

These include:

  • Tooth loss location

Dental bridges are ideal for those who want to replace two adjacent teeth, and if you have multiple missing teeth in different areas of your mouth, you may be better off looking into other options to replace each missing tooth.

  • Tooth strength

The remaining adjacent tooth or teeth should be strong and healthy.

These teeth will serve as anchors for the dental bridge, so if they’re weak or otherwise compromised, they may not be able to support a bridge.

  • Oral and overall health

One of the main factors that determine whether dental bridges are suitable for you or not is the condition of your oral health.

If you have extensive tooth decay or gum disease, you’ll need to address these issues before you undergo treatment, as your teeth and gums need to be as strong and healthy as possible.

Certain medical conditions may also affect your candidacy for dental bridges, like diabetes, for example, so be sure to let your dentist know of any illnesses you suffer from during your initial consultation so that they can help you make an informed decision.

Dental bridges at Hertford Dental Care

All treatments here at Hertford Dental Care start with an in-depth consultation.

During your first appointment, our dentist will complete an examination of your teeth and gums, take dental X-rays of your jaw and ask you a couple of questions to help determine whether a dental bridge is the most suitable option for you. This is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions and express any concerns you may have regarding the treatment.

If we agree that dental bridges are the right option for you, we’ll take an impression of your teeth and gums so that the bridge can be made to fit as closely to your mouth as possible. We’ll also find the most suitable shade of porcelain for your bridge at this stage, too.

These impressions will then be sent away to a specialist lab technician, who will custom-make your dental bridge according to our instructions. In the meantime, we’ll send you home with a temporary bridge while you wait so that you can get a feel for your new smile.

Once your permanent, fixed bridge is ready, we’ll invite you back to the practice to have it fitted.

We’ll give you a local anaesthetic injection before we begin so that you’ll be awake, but comfortable, during the procedure. Once your permanent bridge is in place, we’ll check that the fit is perfect by checking your bite, before sending you away with all the aftercare instructions you need to take the best care of your new smile.
