White fillings in Hertfordshire

White fillings are made out of a combination of powdered glass and ceramic, which is added to a resin base to create a natural shade that matches your teeth.
Unlike traditional silver fillings, white fillings help to preserve more of your natural tooth structure, and only the decayed part of the tooth is removed before the filling material is applied.
The process is similar to that of amalgam fillings, but there are a few extra steps involved to ensure white fillings are properly placed:
- First, we’ll numb the area with a local anaesthetic – but if your cavity is only small, you may not need this.
- Then, we’ll use a small drill to remove the decayed section before shaping, cleaning, and drying the remaining tooth.
- Once the tooth is ready, we’ll apply the composite material in several layers – setting each one with a dental curing light before the next is laid over the top.
- Finally, we’ll file the filling down to match the shape of your natural tooth and polish it to prevent staining and premature wear.
